Sister Salacious Scuttlebutt made her wish to become an aspirant known to the SOIL Sisters in September 2022, and after helping with Fall Pride Festival in Carbondale, she was made Postulant Sister of the SOIL Sisters at the September meeting. In October, she made her debut at Vulture Fest in Makanda, IL, which is a local music and hippie culture festival. After spreading love and joy at Vulture Fest, whilst carrying a great Pimp Stick (cane), Scuttles knew she had found her calling. She continued to manifest for Queermas and the making of music videos of her piano music, which were shared as part of Sister Story Time, as well as a special release of Christmas songs. Finally, Sister Scuttles was elevated to Novice on New Year’s Day 2023. What a way to begin a year! She looks forward to contributing to the SOIL Sister’s Mission House. Sister Scuttles has spent thirty-plus years in music ministry in the Roman Catholic Church, and continues to provide music weekly at the SIUC Newman Catholic Student Center. Besides her ministry at Newman, Sister Scuttles enjoys advocating for survivors of CSA, and has worked with different agencies sharing her story in hopes that awareness might aid in prevention. One project she is working on is Pinwheels for Prevention in which pinwheels bring awareness to child abuse. Besides bringing awareness concerning child abuse, SisterScuttles also has participated in forums and seminars concerning childhood SA perpetrated by Roman Catholic clergy. Finally, Sister Scuttles advocates for the disAbled community by speaking to medical providers and community members about disAbility and the daily issues that disAbled folks contend with. Sister Scuttles experienced a tragic spinal injury in 1999 and lives with a large (C3-T1) fusion, but she continues to do the work for her communities at Newman and Rainbow Café without complaint.
